Rhyolite is an almost-ghost of a mining town, featuring an unusual mix of historical buildings and contemporary outdoor sculpture. It's off NV HWY 374, one of the routes in and out of Death Valley.

I would very much encourage you to head a few miles further west towards the valley on Hy 374 and take a 26 mile off road trip through the Grapevine mountains crossing them at Red Pass at about 2,000'. The narrows in the lower canyon are quite impressive and it spews you out on a huge alluvial fan.
